The clients challenge
A project involving the upgrade of an existing vehicle to incorporate a completely new powertrain presented our client with several interesting challenges. The vehicle had been in use for many years and the original engine, transmission, transfer case, differentials, suspension and wheel hubs were obsolete and difficult to source. The end-user wanted to retain the vehicles in-service for several more years and had a wish to improve the performance of the vehicle. To increase power, improve ride and handling, to reduce the turning circle and to have enhanced mobility. Our brief was to achieve all of these objectives without modifying or changing the form of the vehicles fabricated, armoured steel hull.

This enabled Cytec to take ownership of the project with responsibility for packaging, integration and achieving the required levels of vehicle performance. The clients project requirements were carefully controlled through weekly management meetings. Periodic design reviews were held at key program milestones and documented in formal reports.

By utilising our experienced vehicle engineering capability they were able to ensure that vehicle performance requirements were met, the design was properly engineered and the solution was packaged within the challenging space constraints contained with the brief. Ultimately, they delivered in accordance with their customers specifications.
The extensive data pack created by Cytec and supported by detailed calculations ensured that the client had complete control over the design and freedom to supply systems to their customer in the future. As the life of the vehicle had been extended this helped protect the long term commercial interests of the client.
